An offensive coordinator from Alabama has joined the Atlanta Falcons

Tommy Rees, a former Alabama assistant who accompanied Kevin Stefanski from the Cleveland Browns to the Atlanta Falcons, will have the same position as offensive coordinator with his new NFL squad.

Rees was appointed Atlanta’s offensive coordinator for the 2026 season on Thursday, while Stefanski, who had been fired on January 5 after six seasons as head coach of Cleveland, was hired to head the Falcons on Saturday.

After serving as Alabama’s offensive coordinator in the 2023 season, Rees joined Stefanski’s staff with the Browns after Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban retired.

In 2024, Rees coached Cleveland’s tight ends; in 2025, he was appointed offensive coordinator.

For the first eight games of the 2025 season, Stefanski called plays. Stefanski gave Rees the task of calling plays when the Browns were 2-6 and averaging 15.8 points and 263.5 yards per game. Cleveland went 3-6 for the rest of the season while averaging 17.0 points and 260.9 yards with Rees calling the plays.

For the 2026 season, Atlanta has not yet disclosed their play-calling strategy.

In 2025, Cleveland started three quarterbacks, starting the first four games with Joe Flacco. After that, rookie Dillon Gabriel started the team’s next six games until Shedeur Sanders, another rookie, took over for the remaining seven.

With an average of 34.0 points and 393.1 yards per game, Alabama won the SEC title in 2023, finished 12-2, and qualified for the College Football Playoffs.

In 2025, Atlanta averaged 20.9 points and 333.0 yards per game.

The Falcons fired head coach Raheem Morris on Jan. 4 after three seasons following a second straight 8-9 showing in 2025.
