Netflix Sets Release for Boston Bruins 2022-23 Season Documentary, Celebrating Record-Breaking 65 Wins

BOSTON, Mass. – Netflix has announced that Bruins: Record on Ice, a documentary chronicling the Boston Bruins’ historic 2022-23 NHL season. The film captures the team’s remarkable 65-win regular season, which set an NHL record for the most wins and points (135) in a single season. Featuring exclusive behind-the-scenes footage, interviews with players and coaches, and a deep dive into the highs and lows of their campaign, the documentary promises to immerse fans in one of the most unforgettable seasons in hockey history.

The 2022-23 Boston Bruins, under first-year head coach Jim Montgomery, achieved unprecedented dominance, finishing with a 65-12-5 record to claim their fourth Presidents’ Trophy and third Atlantic Division title. The season saw the return of veteran David Krejci and key acquisitions like Pavel Zacha, Dmitry Orlov, and Tyler Bertuzzi. The Bruins set multiple NHL records, including the fastest team to reach 50 wins (in 64 games), 80 points, and 100 points, and a 14-game home win streak to start the season. They went 22 straight home games without a regulation loss before a 3-0 defeat to Seattle.

Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Rachel Kwon, known for her work on Formula 1: Drive to Survive, the documentary offers unparalleled access to the Bruins’ journey. It includes locker room footage, mic’d-up ice action, and personal moments with stars like David Pastrnak, who co-won the Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy with 48 goals, and Linus Ullmark, who tied the franchise record with 40 wins and earned the Vezina Trophy. Interviews with captain Patrice Bergeron, in his final season, and Krejci, who also retired, provide emotional depth, reflecting on their last run together.

“This season was a masterclass in hockey, but it’s also a story of heart and heartbreak,” Kwon said in a Netflix press release. “We show the Bruins at their peak and the raw emotion of their playoff exit.” The film doesn’t shy away from the season’s shocking conclusion: despite home-ice advantage, the Bruins were upset in the first round by the Florida Panthers in seven games, blowing a 3-1 series lead. This collapse, joining the 2007 Patriots and 2015-16 Warriors as historic regular-season teams that fell short, is a central theme, exploring the team’s resilience and disappointment.

Key moments highlighted include Pastrnak’s 61 goals, tying for the fifth-most in a single NHL season, and Ullmark’s rare goalie goal against Vancouver in February 2023. The documentary captures Bergeron’s 1,000th career point, Krejci’s clutch playmaking, and Brad Marchand’s leadership. Fans will relive games like the 5-3 comeback against Pittsburgh, clinching a playoff spot, and the record-setting 7-3 win over Buffalo, marking their 63rd victory. Archival clips and fan reactions from TD Garden add vibrancy, showcasing Boston’s passionate hockey culture.

The film also addresses challenges, like injuries to Marchand and Charlie McAvoy, and Montgomery’s adjustments after replacing Bruce Cassidy. Off-ice stories, such as Pastrnak’s community work and Bergeron’s family life, humanize the players. The Panthers’ upset, led by Matthew Tkachuk, is dissected through tense game footage and postgame reflections, with Montgomery admitting, “We thought we had it, but hockey humbles you.”

Fans on X are buzzing with anticipation, posting, “65 wins and that playoff gut-punch? This doc’s gonna hit hard!” and “Pasta and Bergy’s last dance deserves this spotlight.” The documentary’s release aligns with growing interest in NHL docuseries, following Prime Video’s FACEOFF: Inside the NHL, which featured Pastrnak and Jeremy Swayman in 2024.

The 2022-23 season marked the end of an era, with Bergeron and Krejci retiring, leaving a void for the 2023-24 squad, which lost to Florida again in the playoffs. Netflix’s 100-minute film, streaming exclusively, offers fans a chance to relive the Bruins’ historic run and reflect on its bittersweet end. As Boston gears up for the 2025-26 season, Bruins: Record on Ice is poised to reignite pride in a team that redefined regular-season excellence.

Mark August 15, 2025, for a front-row seat to hockey history.
